In North Lawndale, there's an exciting project to help grow the community. New developments are expanding, in part because of the Lawndale Christian Development Corporation.

The executive director of Lawndale Christian Development Corporation (LCDC) stopped by ABC 7 Eyewitness News to discuss their continue push to revitalize the North Lawndale area with affordable housing, education, and economic growth.

Live music with cocktails and dinner, a local history lesson, and a lively panel discussion – this is what you can expect from the Lawndale Christian Development Corporation’s upcoming Reawakening Gala.  An organization that increases affordable housing and economic empowerment in North Lawndale, LCDC is hosting its 37th annual Reawakening Gala Jan. 17 to celebrate its efforts and Martin Luther King Jr. Day.

The Lawndale Christian Development Corporation is working to build 1,000 new single-family homes, through a partnership with United Power for Action and Justice and in tandem with organizations and communities across the city of Chicago.

In its nearly 40 years, the Lawndale Christian Development Corporation has funneled more than $120 million into affordable housing and commercial projects in North Lawndale, among other things. While the organization boasts a long list of accomplishments, its leaders have an ambitious agenda for the future.  

The restoration of Lazarus Apartments, a 48-unit affordable rental housing development in the North Lawndale neighborhood, is officially completed and ready to take applicants.
